"Political genocide": MP for Amed/Diyarbakir İdris Baluken's statement after receiving 16 year jail sentence

İdris Baluken, a member of Turkey's parliament since 2011, was sentenced yesterday to 16 years 8 months in prison on trumped up terrorism charges relating to speeches he made. This is a huge assualt on free speech and the rights of Kurds in Turkey to stand for parliament and represent themselves democratically. KSC meets Turkish teacher on hunger strike Semih Özakça - “I want my job back”

Kurdistan Solidarity Campaign's Steve Sweeney was in Ankara last week to observe and report from the trials of HDP co-chairs Figen Yüksekdağ and Selahattin Demirtaş. He met with trade unions and human rights groups in Ankara and also activists such as the primary school teacher Semih Özakça, who has been on hunger strike for 277 days since he was purged from his post. The truth about ISIS leaving Raqqa

The BBC published an article yesterday by Quentin Sommerville and Riam Dalati, claiming that the YPG-led Syrian Democratic Forces had allowed ISIS fighters to leave Raqqa, with the implication that they are now free to undertake attacks in the rest of the region and in Europe. According to Sommerville and Dalati, this constitutes a 'dirty secret' and this article has gone viral.
